American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA)
AAMA GETS A FULL PLATE AT THE 2005 NATIONAL RESTAURANT HOTEL/MOTEL SHOW
The American Amusement Machine Association (AAMA) previewed all the excellent food restaurants will have to offer the public this summer by joining thousands of other exhibitors and attendees at the 86th Annual National Restaurant Hotel/Motel Show in late May. This year's show ran May 21-24, 2005 at Chicago's McCormick Place Convention Center and featured over 2,000 exhibitors in hundreds of different product categories. There were over 73,000 attendees from all 50 states and over 100 countries around the world.
Although food was the main attraction at the show, there were plenty of other ways for attendees to spend their time once they were full. The 2005 NRA show boasted a variety of events for attendees to watch or take part in, including over 60 educational seminars on topics ranging from leadership to the newest innovations in restaurant technology, cooking demonstrations by some of the world's finest chefs, and a showcase of multi-ethnic foods in the International Cuisine Pavilion. There was also an excellent line-up of speakers, most notably former Secretary of State Colin L. Powell, who spoke to a standing room only crowd on the second day of the show. Unofficially, attendees and exhibitors alike gathered around the Direct TV booth during the first two days of the show to engage in friendly competition and bantering as the Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox battled it out in Wrigley Field in the last two games of their first cross town series this season.
2005 saw the AAMA booth location change to a prime spot in the South Hall near the Direct TV booth, which helped to generate a seemingly never-ending stream of traffic for the AAMA and its members. The companies who enjoyed booth space within the AAMA pavilion included AMOA, Coast to Coast Entertainment LLC, Merit Industries, Inc., Namco America Inc., Rowe International, and Stern Pinball, Inc. Other AAMA member companies that exhibited at the show but were not a part of the association's pavilion were Fun Express, Marshall Productions, and TouchTunes Music Corporation. AAMA members, who all had four busy days on the floor, deemed the 2005 show a success. “I thought the NRA had a very good showing. The show offered me quite a few solid leads and several sales. I was able to land a couple locations for a local operator as well. All in all, it was a good show to be part of”, said Coast to Coast Entertainment's Jim Chapman.
Next year's National Restaurant Association show will be held May 20-23, 2006, and will again take place at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL. The new 2006-2007 Location Trade Show (LTS) Calendar will be released in July. Keep your eyes open for more details on this valuable member benefit program in the next issue of Loose Change, the AAMA's monthly e-newsletter, or online at www.coin-op.org.
The next event on the AAMA LTS calendar is the International Bowl Expo, which will be held June 29-30, 2005 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Florida. Following Bowl Expo, the AAMA will head south again in mid-November to Atlanta, Georgia, to play host to its biggest pavilion yet at the 2005 IAAPA show, which runs November 16th-19th at the Georgia World Congress Center.
AAMA members should have already received a copy of the 200+ leads acquired at this year's National Restaurant Association Show. If any association member still needs a copy, please contact Christy Maes via phone at 847.290.9088 or via e-mail at: cmaes@coin-op.org.
On behalf of the AAMA, we would like to thank our member companies for continuing to support the LTS program and for making this year's coin-op pavilion a success at every show!
