CLEAN ’07 ATTENDANCE TOPS CLEAN ‘05

Attendance at Clean ’07, held June 11-14 in Las Vegas, topped the previous show: Clean ’05 in Orlando.

A total of 14,667 people converged on the Las Vegas Convention Center for the world’s largest textile care exposition.  Attendance at Clean ’05 was 13,951.
Nearly 10,000 registrants were attendees there to see the new technologies and products showcased over 227,950 net square feet of exhibit space by 484 exhibiting companies.

“Las Vegas continues to be a good venue for the Clean Show.  All indications are that exhibitors had a great show and Clean ’07 was a huge success,” said John Riddle, president of Riddle & Associates, the show’s management company.  “Attendees seemed equally pleased with all they were able to see and learn.”

Exhibit space was down by 900 net square feet from Clean ’05, and there were 27 fewer exhibiting companies.  Riddle attributes this to a number of acquisitions and mergers in the industry.  “This meant fewer companies, but many took larger spaces than at previous shows,” he said.

The Clean Show celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2007.  The biennial show began in 1977 as a means of consolidating several smaller shows for greater financial feasibility. The show attracts all segments of the garment and textile care industry – retail, commercial, coin, institutional and industrial laundering, drycleaning and textile rental.  A textile care museum was a popular feature of Clean ’07.

International attendance was also up from Clean ’05.  The show drew 1,948 international visitors from 82 countries.  Many more who requested letters of invitation to the show were unable to obtain visas in time to attend.  “This indicates that the Clean Show is truly recognized as an international exposition,” Riddle said.  Clean ’05 drew 1,714 international visitors from 79 countries.

Countries with 65 or more people attending Clean ‘07 were Canada, 593; Mexico, 187; Japan, 154; Spain, 79; Australia and United Kingdom, 75 each; Italy, 74; and Germany, 68.

Educational sessions, an integral part of the show, drew standing room only crowds.  Over 30 hours of education were offered by four of the show’s six sponsoring associations and a guest presenter: American Reusable Textile Association.

Two of the show’s sponsors announced association name changes at Clean ’07.  International Fabricare Institute (IFI) becomes Drycleaning & Laundry Institute (DLI).  National Association of Institutional Linen Management (NAILM) becomes Association for Linen Management (ALM).  Other show sponsors are Coin Laundry Association (CLA), Textile Care Allied Trades Association (TCATA), Textile Rental Services Association of America (TRSA), and Uniform and Textile Service Association (UTSA).

Clean ’09 is scheduled for June 18-21, 2009, at Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.  “The show has evolved over the 26 years I have worked with it, Riddle said.  Many mergers have taken place in the industry, but booths are bigger, utility requirements are greater, and freight weights are higher.  Twenty years ago there were several venues that could accommodate the show.  Now we are limited to just three.”
“We are looking forward to another great show in New Orleans in 2009,” he added.  “Having visited the city several times in the past few months, I think everyone will be pleased with the ‘new’ New Orleans.  To be truthful, if you did not know storms had been there, with the exception of one hotel and some outlying neighborhoods, you couldn’t tell.  New Orleans has hosted many successful trade shows since its recovery.  Some have even broken attendance records.”
