Amusement & Music Operators Association (AMOA)

Industry Steps Up on Katrina Relief Initiative--$100,000 Raised in Grass Roots `Coin-Op Cares' Effort

Less than 36 hours after Hurricane Katrina unleashed its fury on the Gulf Coast, the Executive Committee of the Amusement & Music Operators Association (AMOA), conducted an emergency conference call and decided to make an immediate $10,000 donation to the American Red Cross, announced it would match member donations up to $20,000; and mobilized an active fundraising effort that was launched during its recently-conducted trade show.

The Katrina Relief Effort, directed under the banner, “Coin-Op Cares,” received a major boost when Incredible Technologies, Inc., (IT) generously offered to match all AMOA donations up to $50,000.

“Members—and even some nonmembers—from all over the country responded in overwhelming and inspiring fashion,” said AMOA President Jim Pietrangelo. “By the end of this year's Expo in Las Vegas, our organization—comprised of small and medium sized, family-owned firms—helped raised enough money that, when the matching contributions were included, totaled more than $100,000.”

The funds have been earmarked for the American Red Cross, Salvation Army and three state-directed hurricane disaster relief organizations—one each in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

Today, representatives from AMOA and IT met at IT headquarters to officially announce its fundraising goal of $100,000 had been exceeded. IT President Elaine Hodgson and Executive Vice President Richard Ditton were on hand to present a check—in the amount of $50,000—to AMOA Executive Vice President Jack Kelleher

“We're pleased to be part of this industry effort,” said Hodgson. “It demonstrates how much good can be achieved when we work together towards a common goal, and how giving the coin-op family really is. Truly, it shows that `Coin-Op Cares.'”
