If I had to pick one word that defined this year’s Expo, it would be ‘festive.’ Orland Park, IL –The 2006 AMOA International Expo, September 27-29, 2006, in Las Vegas was, by virtually all measurements, a major success.
There was a very positive energy in the South Halls of the Las Vegas Convention Center during the three days of the show. With more than 500 booths and 165 exhibitors as part of this year’s AMOA Expo, the attendees were able to walk the floor and view many new and exciting products. “By a considerable margin, it exceeded my expectations, and I think those of many, many others,” said Jack Kelleher, AMOA Executive Vice President. “If I had to pick one word that defined this year’s Expo, it would be ‘festive.’ From my observations, showgoers seemed to be having fun at Expo this year. I can’t pinpoint why, but seeing ‘smiles in the aisles’ was to me, a good sign.” At this year’s show, there was a combined total attendance more than 6,000, which included both AMOA and Fun Expo. Sponsorships of the Golf Outing and Cocktail Party along with the exhibitor advertising indicated strong support by the exhibitors. Twenty-one companies with 29 entries were involved in the Innovator Award Programs. Winners of this year’s event were Global VR, Pyramid Technologies and TouchTunes Music Corp. The Fourth Annual Coin-Op Cares Golf Classic was held on Tuesday, September 26th at the Angel Park Golf Club, and it attracted 105 golfers. More than 75 firms served as hole sponsors with the monies going to the AMOA PAC Program. The following companies took part in other sponsorships: Cole Vending, Firestone Financial, JLO, Bay-Tek Games, Louisiana Association, Tennessee Association, Montana Association, Brady Distributing and Incredible Technologies. Income from the tourney, as well as monies collected from mulligan and Putting Challenge entry fees was directed to the AMOA Coin-Op Cares Charitable and Education Foundation.
A total of 46 exhibitors took advantage of the AMOA Show Specials and buyers were able to tap into many discounts that were published and distributed at the show. Balloons and floor stickers helped direct buyers to the participating booths. More excitement was generated with the drawing of five jukeboxes sponsored by the Jukebox Promotion Committee. AMOA jukebox operators who license their jukeboxes with the Jukebox License Office could enter to win one of five jukeboxes throughout the show. This year’s event also featured a new program, the AMOA International Pinball Championships. They were held on the show floor with qualifying rounds on Wednesday and Thursday and the finals and award ceremony held on Friday. The event generated more than $1,400 in registration fees, with a portion of the proceeds going to the AMOA Coin-Op Cares Foundation.
The All-Industry Gala held on Wednesday, September 27th was a hit, with the “Celebrating the Jukebox” theme being reflected in the blinking jukebox pins that lit up the party. This year’s event attracted over 1,500 industry professionals. Sponsors of this event were AMOA, IALEI, AAMA, Betson Enterprises, Firestone Financial Corp., Incredible Technologies, Merit Industries, SEGA Amusements USA Inc., Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal, TouchTunes Music Corp., Sterling & Sterling and Valley-Dynamo.
Five seminars coordinated by the Expo Education Committee, were held on Wednesday and Thursday during the show and were enjoyed by a large number of attendees and exhibitors. The topics for these seminars were: • VIDEO GAME REPAIR, PART 1 & 2 WITH RANDY FROMM WITH 57 IN ATTENDANCE • WHAT TO DO BEFORE DISASTER STRIKES WITH 23 IN ATTENDANCE • HOW TO BUILD A BETTER YOU WITH SPEAKER BRYAN DODGE, WITH 123 IN ATTENDANCE • HOW TO BUILD A COMPLETE SALESPERSON WITH BRYAN DODGE WITH 84 IN ATTENDANCE • TRADE TIPS FROM THE SCHOOL OF EXPERIENCE SPONSORED BY THE CENTURY CLUB WITH 45 IN ATTENDANCE. The Wayne E. Hesch Scholarship raised more than $70,000 – the largest net amount in many years – for the coin-op education program with over 60 companies providing products to raffle. A new Sea Doo watercraft was the grand prize for the raffles. “Each year, we solicit feedback from exhibitors before the show closes,” said AMOA’s Kelleher. “One of the questions asked for a 1-10 rating on the overall value of the show, with 10 being the highest. We collected 101 of these surveys—representing about 61 percent of the show’s exhibitors—and of those, 70 percent rated the show a ‘7’ or above.” The 2007 AMOA International Expo will again be held in Las Vegas at the Las Vegas Convention Center in the North Hall, Thursday, September 27 through Saturday, September 29, 2007. 2006-10-12 |
