Players Come From 6 States To Compete in The Nebraska BullShooter Regional
|
The event was co-sponsored by Greater American Dist and NTS-Dart Tech, out of Omaha
March 9-11, 2007, the BullShooter Tour made a stop at the Redick Plaza Hotel, in Omaha, for a $9,000 Qualifier. The event was co-sponsored by Greater American Dist and NTS-Dart Tech, out of Omaha.
Players came from Nebraska, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois, Colorado and even as far away as Utah to compete and qualify for the $120,000 BullShooter Finals over Memorial Day weekend in Rosemont, Illinois.
It was Manny Jimenez’s turn to be the big winner, over the weekend, taking home four championship trophies. He captured firsts in Pro Doubles, with Mike Brewer; Mixed Triples with Donna Gagen and Aaron Lopez; Pro/Am Cricket again with Aaron; and Mixed Cricket again with Donna. Donna also won the championship in Women’s Singles. Mike Brewer won the Pro Cricket Singles event after defeating Manny in the championship match leaving Manny a second place.
Doug Martin won the Men’s Cricket Singles event and Cricket Doubles with Jeff Capito. In the women’s events, Annette Hansen and Sharon Burke took home first in Women’s Doubles and Julie Dellmire and Cathy Ballard first in Women’s Doubles Combo. Men’s Doubles was won by Tom Kirkman and Larry Runge.
The Next Dart Generation
Chris Van Horn, the Dart League Coordinator for Greater Omaha Dart Leagues, rewarded his son, Chris Van Horn, Jr. the privilege of coming to the Nebraska Regional for receiving outstanding grades at school. He said he would only play doubles with Chris Jr., but there was one catch. Since Chris was a Pro player, his 12 year old son had to shoot with him in the Pro Doubles event. That meant double in/double out with the freeze rule in effect. The first two games Chris was pretty nervous, and they ended up in the loser’s bracket. After advice from Dad to “play like at home”, things changed. They went through the loser’s bracket, beat Chris’s doubles’ partner, and went to the 4th place match. Chris Jr. was the only one to get in the first round and it was a close match, but they were defeated and won 4th place honors. One place from being ranked a Pro player for Chris Jr.! Wow, what great darts, not only for just being 12 years old, but this was Chris’s first competition. I’m sure we will be seeing a lot more of Chris Jr.
Also congratulations to Landon Johnson, who is another 12 year old that played very well in the Pro/Am Cricket event. Landon played with partner Travis Duncan and they took 7th place. One game Landon took out the game with a Trip 17 and a Trip 18! Great darts! Landon just started playing in the Kid/Adult Sunday League for Nebraska Technical Dart Leagues and also played in the last annual Bobby Hodges Memorial Dart Tournament. He has been playing off and on for the last couple years. It’s so great to see dart operators take an interest in our youth by offering leagues and events they can play in, and look at the results!
Both young men displayed remarkable composure, skill and spirit. Everyone has potential, but it takes courage to embrace the possibilites of your own potential. Once you get past your fears, nothing seems impossible. Congratulations on both of your inspiring performances and professional attitudes, you are good examples to other youth! Good luck to you both in whatever goals and dreams you pursue.
Congratulations to all first, second, and third place Qualifiers to the BullShooter $120,000 Finals, over Memorial Day weekend, May 24-28, 2007!
