Chalmette Amusement Co.

9/1/05 The following is an e-mail sent to AMOA by Troy Estopinal, Chalmette Amusement Co., Arabi, LA

Even as his own business has been destroyed and his family displaced, New Orleans area operator Troy Estopinal of Chalmette Amusement (Arabi, La.) is working to help relocate 50 other families from the areas hardest hit by Hurricane Katrina.

"Some families have nothing but the clothes on their backs," Troy reported. "So if the operators want to send food, clothes, gift cards, or other items, I have arranged with Greg Young of Town and Country Amusements in Baton Route, La., to have everything shipped to his office and I will distribute it to the other families. These items are needed asap so please ship next day if possible." Young's address is 4001 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge, LA 70806.

Estopinal said he and his family have relocated to Baton Rouge, where he plans to set up temporary headquarters as his business is 95% underwater.

Fellow AMOA leader and Louisiana operator Donovan Fremin of Delta Music in Thibodaux reports minimal damage to his business and customers. "Everything is at a standstill," he said. "No electricity, fuel is difficult to get and there is a shortage of food and water. I believe my area will be somewhat back to normal soon. Our thoughts and prayers should go out to Troy and over a million people without homes along the coast."

Meanwhile, we have still heard no word from other New Orleans area tradesters including the Boasbergs at New Orleans Novelty, the Metairie office of AMA Distributors or Stephen Genco of Genco Distributing in Bogalusa, to name just a few. AMOA is concurrently maintaining a website with information about its members at
www.amoa.com.
