Innovative On-Screen Advertising Campaign Underscores Broadband Advantage (SAN FRANCISCO) Ecast Inc., the digital-downloading, commercial jukebox leader, demonstrated the power of on-screen jukebox promotions last month by increasing the number of paid plays from Kid Rock’s “Live Trucker” album by 781 percent over the same period prior to the launch of the featured album promotion.“We are seeing a very strong relationship between the albums being featured and promoted on the touch screen monitors in our jukeboxes, and the number of paid plays those albums generate,” said John Taylor, Ecast’s CEO. “One of the advantages of broadband is that we have the ability to aggressively promote new artists and albums through broadcast quality attract loops with live video and motion graphics.” To support the distribution of the Kid Rock featured album and other on-screen promotions, Ecast is able to leverage its broadband network to increase paid plays on a per album basis. Since all 6000 Ecast jukes are equipped with high-speed internet connections, the company frequently distributes compelling, full-motion video on-screen promotions that directly impact jukebox sales. Broadband also allows Ecast to support maximum up time by distributing attract loops and banner campaigns over the internet quickly, without tying up a venue’s phone or fax line for an extended period of time, and without cutting into hours of operation. “The file size of the campaigns that play on the touch screen can be as much as 100 times bigger than a picture you might email someone over the internet,” said Seth Hamlin, Ecast creative lead with 10 years experience creating award-winning marketing and advertising campaigns. “To give you an idea of what we’re talking about, it would have taken up to an hour per box to push out a campaign like the Kid Rock featured album over dial-up internet connections. With broadband, it was quick and painless. We didn’t have to tie-up the venue’s phone line or interrupt the operator’s ability to sell song plays.” Broadband connections are always on and do not interrupt voice or fax service. It is not uncommon for dial-up connections that run over 48 minutes to become disconnected, requiring a new file download upon reconnection, since partial file downloads are essentially useless. “People want the latest music. If you make it available, they’ll pay for it. Ecast-powered jukes earn more than any other juke on the market because they always have the freshest content. And these attract loops promote that,” said Steven Kellam, director of sales at Ecast. “Bright graphics and moving, colored lighting is important, and when you’ve got streaming video of Kid Rock playing on the touch screen, people really notice.” Through its long-standing relationships with all the major and independent record labels, and Hollywood-based entertainment conglomerates, Ecast runs featured album promotions to support new album releases. The impact of these promotions, as the Kid Record “Live Trucker” promotion demonstrates, has the potential to lead to a richer coin drop and a fatter cash box.
