ECAST-POWERED JUKEBOXES AUTOMATICALLY UPDATED WITH MARDI GRAS PLAYLIST OF ON-DEMAND MUSIC

Latest Release Showcasing Louisiana Artists Helps Operators and Locations Take Advantage of Upcoming “Fat Tuesday” Celebration

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Perfectly timed to take advantage of Mardi Gras bar crowds, a new music category automatically appeared today on all jukeboxes across  Ecast’s 8,000-plus nationwide broadband music network. Part of the company’s unique ‘Hot Hits’ on-demand music recommendation feature, the new Mardi Gras playlist showcases the essential sounds of the annual carnival celebration, including Cajun, Louisiana and New Orleans artists. Colorful display art and a video attract loop promote the new category.  This playlist is part of a larger, on-going initiative to make it easier for patrons to find seasonal and genre favorites while at the same time removing the music programming burden from operators.

“Fresh content will be automatically available – that’s one of the many great benefits of being part of the Ecast network,” said Steven Kellam, vice president of network sales, Ecast. “Because our network is one hundred percent broadband, our operators run their routes more efficiently and get more from the cash box because they don’t have to update their individual locations to keep up with patron demands for new music.”

The “Mardi Gras” collection highlights some 43 albums reflecting the Cajun sound of Zydeco and jazz/R&B flavors. The mix features mainstream and lesser known but highly regarded artists including:

  • Roy "Professor Longhair" Byrd, a founding father of New Orleans R&B whose immortal “Tipitina” is one of the hallmark New Orleans anthems;
  • Clifton Chenier, known as the undisputed "King of Zydeco." He was the first Creole to be presented a Grammy award on national television and later performed at the White House;
  • Dr. John, a revolutionary master of New Orleans R&B, whose crossover into underground rock and roll brought the traditional music of New Orleans to a new young audience, having cut albums with the likes of Eric Clapton, Mick Jagger and the Meters:
  • Influential Zydeco pioneer Boozoo Chavis, who was inducted into the Zydeco Hall of Fame in 1998, has a long list of favorites including the first known Zydeco hit “Paper In My Shoes;”
  • BeauSoleil one of the best known and most highly respected Cajun bands in the world.
