ECAST PROVIDES EXCLUSIVE PREVIEW OF NEW WILCO ALBUM IN ADVANCE OF RETAIL RELEASE

Grammy Award-Winning Band Uses Touchscreen Music Network to Promote Upcoming Album

SAN FRANCISCO – Ecast will be the first out-of-home network to exclusively preview the brand new album, Sky Blue Sky, from the Grammy-award winning and highly popular group Wilco. The album will appear on the nationwide Ecast Network on May 9, days before its scheduled May 15 street release.

Ecast, an entertainment company operating the largest broadband touchscreen media network in the United States, has partnered with Warner Music Group’s label Nonesuch Records to exclusively offer the album nationally for play across virtually all 10,000 Ecast locations.  This marks the sixth album for the Chicago-based band, and follows their 2005 release of Kicking Television: Live in Chicago, an album that Q Magazine called a “stunning document (of) one of the best live bands currently in existence.”

“Wilco is the quintessential modern American band,” said Paul Koehler, Ecast label relations manager.  “While they are ‘indie rock darlings’ they are also one of the progenitors of alternative country and have huge cross over appeal.  They are constantly touring and interacting with their fans, so our engaging, out-of-home medium is a great way for them to generate excitement across the country.  Wilco really is an ideal band to both showcase Ecast’s strength as a promotional partner and to bring a whole new set of music fans into our venues and introduce them to our unique out-of-home touchscreen network.”

Ecast predicts that the promotion will generate between 250,000 to 500,000 visual impressions for album and band assets and garner at least 50,000 audio impressions. This will be the only distribution vehicle to monetize the pre-release of the album in the out-of-home space. In other words, Wilco fans will have one place to go for a chance to have a drink with friends and preview tracks from the new album: their local Ecast venue.  Although Ecast has leveraged its interactive out-of-home media before to promote a network-wide pre-release, this marks the first time that Ecast has done so with a major record label.

To alert fans to the much-anticipated album, Ecast has created a customized, interactive video attract loop highlighting Sky Blue Sky and will promote it though easy-to-use touchscreen navigation buttons including:

  • ‘Hot Hits’ music discovery feature;
  • ‘Featured Album’ status at designated rock locations;
  • Top position on Ecast’s  ‘Just Added’ playlist and
  • Wilco will feature its album single “What Light,” which will appear in Ecast’s ‘Heat Seeking Singles.’

 “Ecast is a perfect media vehicle to generate fan excitement in advance of a record release,” said Joshua Pollack, music product manager, Ecast.  “Working with Warner Music Group is proof that the industry is seeing value - and even embracing - alternative methods of record promotion.”
