IALEI International Association for the
Leisure and Entertainment Industry
Recognized by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC)
|
The National Center is truly grateful for the participation of IALEI
The International Association for the Leisure and Entertainment Industry (IALEI) was recently recognized for its efforts with the Code Adam child safety program by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) at a press conference in Washington D.C. on May 1, 2007.
Ernie Allen, president and CEO of NCMEC, recognized IALEI as an important partner to the center. IALEI is currently remaking the Code Adam video and re-developing the Code Adam training materials to be more applicable to the leisure and entertainment industry.
The child safety program was created several years ago by two Wal-Mart associates and later named Code Adam in memory of 6-year-old Adam Walsh. In 1981, Adam was abducted from a Florida shopping mall and later found murdered. This incident brought national attention to the horror of child abduction.
Since the beginning of the Code Adam program in 1994, it has been a powerful search tool for lost and possibly abducted children in thousands of establishments across the nation, and it is one of the country’s largest child-safety programs.
The Code Adam video and training materials are currently designed for retail stores. IALEI is now in the production stage of the video remake and is planning to showcase the new version at its annual Fun Expo show in Las Vegas being held September 24-29, 2007.
Those participating in the press conference from IALEI included: Larry Davis, president; Tracy Sarris, executive director; Dorothy Lewis, education committee chair; Mike Snyder, communications manager and special guests Mike and Rose Staples and their daughter Laura.
Laura was nearly abducted from her suburban Philadelphia home in 1998 but was fortunately rescued by Rocky, the family dog, before the perpetrator could get her out of the house. Her father Mike operates Naython’s Display Fixture Company, which supplies various fixtures to the family entertainment industry. Laura will appear in the remake of the Code Adam video.
“The National Center is truly grateful for the participation of IALEI in the Code Adam and Take 25 safety initiatives,” David Shapiro, special assistant to the president at the
NCMEC, said. “Our children will be safer as a direct result of the leadership shown by members of this well-respected industry association. IALEI has the power to reach thousands of families across America to share our common message of child safety.”
