Torino Olympics Even before 2006 Olympics started in Torino, the Swiss systems integrator MICROTRONIC AG had already carried off its gold medal. Working for Coca-Cola and the IOC (International Olympic Committee), MICROTRONIC – an experienced integrator of worldwide RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) solutions – introduced a new RFID key fob in the shape of a POWERADE bottle for vending machines
in the Olympic villages.
MICROTRONIC’s FLEX-TAG has opened a new dimension in the RFID universe by offering unlimited three-dimensional design features. The resulting RFID key fob can slip into any dress and it stays elastic despite imbedded electronics! FLEX-TAG had its first success in the shape of a Coca-Cola bottle at Olympics 2004, now in Torino the POWERADE shaped FLEX-TAG has won the benchmark to be the ideal partner for thirsty people: 10,000 FLEX-TAGs were distributed to competitors and IOC officials living in the Olympic villages. Over 200 MICROTRONIC RFID readers were installed in Coca-Cola vending machines. People
could self-service a free drink simply by presenting their FLEX-TAG to the reader and making their choice.
FLEX-TAG and its sophisticated manufacturing process is the result of MICROTRONIC’s investment to continuous research & development. FLEX-TAG is the current cashless payment winner of the International Innovation Awards for Vending. A professional jury awarded this prize during the last D.A.Vending Expo in Paris. MICROTRONIC has also been looking to the future and they already announced their next clou for upcoming international events – which at this time is still a secret.
