THOUSANDS OF SUDENTS TURN OUT FOR
BALANCED FOR LIFE AMERICA SCORES SOCCER
JAMBOREE! Students
from California and Colorado Play Saturday May 21; Chicago
and Washington DC Follow June 4
CHICAGO – Thousands of urban-area school children will turn
out Saturday, May 21 at Boxer Soccer Stadium/Balboa Park in San
Francisco and All City Stadium in Denver
for the first two Balanced for Life America Scores Jamborees! National
Automatic Merchandising Association President and CEO Richard M. Geerdes
announced today. At the Jamborees! thousands of students,
parents teachers and community leaders turn out to watch the children play
back-to-back soccer matches and celebrate the importance of literacy and
physical activity. The events are
sponsored by Balanced for Life, the industry’s initiative designed to address
the nation’s skyrocketing childhood obesity rates by teaching students the
importance of a balanced diet and being physically active.
In
speaking about the Jamborees! Geerdes said, “The America Scores program is
excellent partner for our Balanced for Life campaign because it gets kids
active. For many of the students who play
soccer in the America Scores program, it’s the only physical activity the
students get at all. We’re proud of our
partnership with America Scores, and especially proud to be sponsoring these
Jamborees! and we wish all the students good luck in their games.”
At
each event a representative from Balanced for Life will present a $10,000 check
to the local America Scores city. In
addition, students at the event will receive Balanced for Life tee-shirts and
gift bags, and enjoy snacks courtesy of ARAMARK Corporation. When not on the soccer field, students can
visit the Balanced for Life booth to learn how to be a Smart Snacker and compete
to see who can jump rope the longest.
Parents and community leaders can visit the booth to learn more about the
Balanced for Life campaign.
