Execs Came From 18 States and Canada CHICAGO, IL – Feb. 14 – Forty vending, coffee service and on-site food management executives graduated last month from the National Automatic Merchandising Association’s (NAMA) Michigan State University (MSU) Executive Development Program, NAMA Director of Education and Meeting Services LyNae Schleyer, CMP, announced today. The program was held at the university Jan. 22-27.In discussing this year’s program Schleyer said, “We had an excellent response with 40 vending, coffee service and onsite food management executives from 18 states and Canada participating in the program.” Ten participants earned scholarships which were provided by the NAMA Foundation, Crane Merchandising Systems of Bridgeton, MO; and four state councils—Arizona Automatic Merchandising Council, California Automatic Vendors Council, Georgia Automatic Merchandising Association, and Northwest Automatic Vending Association. “We thank those State Councils for their generosity, and send our congratulations and best wishes to all of the new graduates,” Schleyer said. The curriculum developed for the program helps attendees master everything from successfully integrating today’s technology applications and viewing the competition, to developing action plans and business strategies to strengthen the business. The highly specialized program tracks the very same curriculum courses offered elsewhere at traditional MBA schools, including finance, marketing, supply chain management, technology and negotiations strategy. When asked about her experience at the program, graduate Susanne Creuger, general Manager of EduKit Vending Inc., in Colorado Springs, CO, said “My head is still swimming with information. Hopefully I won’t lose any of it; it was all so good. All the professors were excellent, and if I had it to do over again, I would.” “Looking at the response we had for this year’s program, it’s obvious that industry leaders serious about advancing their careers are realizing the incredible value this program offers. Programs similar to NAMA’s Executive Development charge a minimum of $5,000,’’ said Schleyer. “Essentially it’s an opportunity to benefit from exceptional education for about half of the cost that you would expect to pay anywhere else,” she added. Throughout the week the students participated in a case study and the week concluded with group presentations and a special graduation dinner. Donnie Pemberton, director of finance for G.P.L. Food Services dba Pepi Foods, Inc., in Bainbridge, GA, said, “This was one of the most knowledgeable experiences I have had. The program's professors were excellent, it was well organized and I had a wonderful opportunity to network with my peers and strengthen my leadership skills." Concluded Schleyer, “If you’re serious about advancing your career, the MSU Executive Development experience is simply a program you can’t afford to miss.” The next session will be offered January 14-19, 2007. NAMA is the national trade association of the food and refreshment vending, coffee services and foodservice management industries including on-site, commissary, catering, & mobile. Its membership is comprised of service companies, equipment manufacturers and suppliers of products and services to operating service companies. The basic mission of the association, to collectively advance and promote the automatic merchandising and OCS industries, still guides NAMA today as it did in 1936, the year of the organization’s founding. |
