Hundreds of School Administrators Request Campaign Materials CHICAGO, IL – Hundreds of the nation’s most prominent school administration officials have requested material about the National Automatic Merchandising Association’s (NAMA) health and wellness initiative, Balanced for Life, after learning about the program at the National Association of School Administrator’s national conference in February, NAMA President and
CEO Richard M. Geerdes, NCE announced
today. School administrators who requested materials have been sent sample campaign literature along
with an order form they can use to supply their school system with Balanced for Life brochures, machine clings, stickers and posters.
Balanced for Life is NAMA’s health and wellness initiative designed to help address the nation’s rising obesity rates by communicating messages about the importance of a balanced diet and physical exercise. Representatives from Balanced for Life exhibited at the American Association of School Administrators National Conference, the largest gathering of school superintendents from across the country. The show featured more than 3,000 of the most influential decision-makers in public education who in turn represent some 23,000 K-12 schools. In discussing the response from the show attendees, Geerdes said, “This show delivered a powerful message to school administrators across the country about our industry’s work to help address rising obesity rates. Most of the visitors to the Balanced for Life booth were Superintendents, and literally hundreds of them asked for materials about our campaign. The opportunity for us to educate these influential school administrators about the work we have done through our Balanced for Life campaign is enormous.” Geerdes added that the campaign materials were extremely well received. School systems across the country are required by law to create Wellness programs for their schools that outline steps they are taking to develop nutrition educational materials, and show attendees uniformly said that the Balanced for Life campaign materials will help them meet that objective. "Thank you SO MUCH for this!” and “You have no idea how much this will help me!" for example, were just two of many, many positive comments made by visitors to the booth. Concluded Geerdes, “We are delighted to be providing our campaign material to so many key school officials across the country. The Balanced for Life campaign is designed to partner with schools, parents, teachers and community leaders so that we can work together to help address this problem. It is especially rewarding that so many school administrators are interested in our campaign because it helps us achieve that goal.” For more information about Balanced for Life, visit balancedforlife.net. NAMA is the national trade association of the food and refreshment vending, coffee services and foodservice management industries including on-site, commissary, catering, & mobile. Its membership is comprised of service companies, equipment manufacturers and suppliers of products and services to operating service companies. The basic mission of the association, to collectively advance and promote the automatic merchandising and OCS industries, still guides NAMA today as it did in 1936, the year of the organization’s founding.
