NAMA National Automatic Merchandising Association

NAMA PUSHES EXPO ONTO THE NEXT LEVEL:

Changes Designed to Deliver Enhanced Show Experience Trade Show Kicks-Off Wednesday PM;
Industry Award Banquet Moved to Thursday, Weekend Open for Possible Orlando Play-Days

Chicago, IL — To maximize the show experience for attendees and exhibitors and to take advantage of Orlando’s many attractions, the National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) is unveiling a newly redesigned Expo to deliver an enhanced show experience for the 2006 National Expo, NAMA President and CEO Richard M. Geerdes, NCE, announced today. The most significant changes for the event, scheduled to be held Oct.25-27 in Orlando, include a new Wednesday afternoon opening, moving the Industry Awards banquet to Thursday, and keeping the weekend free for attendees to enjoy the many attractions of Orlando.

In discussing the new show format Geerdes said, “Changing the show dates to Wednesday through Friday is a win-win for everyone. Local operators can attend Wednesday and help drive traffic to the show floor, and wrapping up on Friday leaves the weekend free for attendees to either enjoy the many Orlando attractions, or to spend the weekend at home with their families. We wanted to arrange the schedule to ensure we delivered all the powerful programs and value our industry has come to expect from the Expo, but to make sure that visitors could be enjoying Orlando instead of spending the weekend in the convention center, and our new show accomplishes just that.”

In addition, the Awards Banquet, previously held on Friday evening, is now business attire and has been moved to Thursday so that more people can attend. Said Geerdes, “So many people left after the show on Friday they were unable to attend the banquet. Now that we’ve moved it to Thursday more people can attend our industry’s most prestigious event.” Additional upgrades to the banquet are planned and will be announced as soon as they are finalized.

The festivities officially begin on Tuesday with a golf tournament hosted by the Automatic Merchandising Association of Florida, followed by the show opening on Wednesday from 3 – 7. Also on Wednesday, new supervisors can attend NAMA’s newest professional development program, the Supervisor Development program designed to train supervisors to help them become effective team leaders. Complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served at various areas on the show floor on Wednesday from 5:30 – 7, a perfect way to enjoy beer and wine while networking and catching up with colleagues.

Thursday will open with a newly upgraded Opening Session/Annual Meeting, which will be held from 8:30 – 10:30, and will be followed by the opening of the show floor. On Thursday evening, the Awards Banquet and reception will be held from 6-10, and the show wraps up on Friday with the trade show floor open from 10-4. More show upgrades are being developed and added daily, and the details about all of them will be announced soon. The changes were strongly endorsed by the Trade Show Advisory Committee and several NAMA supplier and operator members

Beginning Wednesday morning and continuing throughout the week, a sweeping array of educational sessions will be available to help attendees from all three segments of our industry learn how to do things better. Programs tailored specifically for vending, coffee service and foodservice will be delivered to help professionals from companies of all sizes brush up on specific topics critical to their business.

For the weekend, NAMA is working to organize discounted trips to a variety of area attractions that members can enjoy at a significant savings. Attendees should watch for more details about the specific trips that will be available soon.

Geerdes concluded, “We spent a tremendous amount of time creating a new Expo because we really want to deliver a powerful show while still offering time for attendees to enjoy themselves. We’re very excited about what’s in store for everyone attending the show in Orlando, and are sure everyone will be delighted with the changes.”

NAMA is celebrating its 70th anniversary in 2006. The organization is the national trade association of the food and refreshment vending, coffee service and foodservice management industries including on-site, commissary, catering, & mobile. Its membership is comprised of service companies, equipment manufacturers and suppliers of products and services to operating service companies. The basic mission of the association, to collectively advance and promote the automatic merchandising and coffee service industries, still guides NAMA today as it did in 1936, the year of the organization’s founding.
