NAMA National Automatic Merchandising Association
THOUSANDS OF STUDENTS TURN OUT FOR BALANCED FOR LIFE AMERICA SCORES SOCCER JAMBOREES!
|
Industry Sponsors Events in Eight Cities Thanks to Donations from State Chapters and ARAMARK Corporation
CHICAGO– Thousands of urban-area school children in eight cities
across the country participating in America Scores Soccer Jamborees will be enjoying better-for-you snacks and beverages provided through the National Automatic Merchandising Association’s (NAMA) Balanced for Life program, NAMA President and CEO Richard M. Geerdes, NCE, announced today. At the Jamborees! hundreds of students, parents teachers and community leaders turn out to watch the children play back-to-back soccer matches and celebrate
the importance of literacy and physical activity. The vending industry is a sponsor at eight of the events across the country thanks to the industry’s Balanced for Life initiative designed to address the nation’s skyrocketing childhood obesity rates by teaching students the importance of a balanced diet and being physically active.
In speaking about the Jamborees! Geerdes said, “America Scores is an excellent partner for our Balanced for Life campaign because it gets kids active. For many of the students who play soccer in the America Scores program, it’s the only physical activity the students get at all. We’re proud of our partnership with America Scores, and especially proud to be a sponsor at these Jamborees!”
Students in eight cities will enjoy better-for-you snacks courtesy of ARAMARK Corporation. When not on the soccer field, students can visit the Balanced for Life booth to learn how to be a Smart Snacker and compete to see who can jump rope the longest. Parents and community leaders can visit the booth to learn more about the Balanced for Life campaign.
When asked about the donation, ARAMARK Vice President of Marketing Brian Zaslow said, “We are happy to do our part to support these students. Even better, it demonstrates our company’s commitment to focus on local communities.”
America Scores is a national non-profit after school program that mixes poetry writing and soccer to educate students about the importance of literacy and a healthy lifestyle. Students have been participating in Jamborees! all spring, with the last three events scheduled for June 3 in Chicago, Washington, DC, and Milwaukee. For more information contact Jackie Clark at (301) 987-7113.
Concluded Geerdes, “The Balanced for Life Jamborees are an important demonstration of the vending industry’s commitment to working to encourage our children to eat a balanced diet and be physically active, and we hope our members will show their support by attending an event in their local community.”
