WASHINGTON, DC – The Maryland/DC Vending Association has made a second $1,000 donation to the non-profit youth soccer group DC SCORES and pledged to provide soccer uniform shirts and shorts for a new team being developed, Maryland DC Vending Association President Hugh O’Neill and Past President Dominic Finelli announced today. DC SCORES is a non-profit youth group that mixes poetry writing with soccer and is an important partner with the National Automatic Merchandising Association’s (NAMA) Balanced for Life program because it gets kids active.

In making the donation O’Neill said, “We made our first donation at the DC SCORES Jamboree! last year. Later, at our second Annual MD-DC Vending Association Charity Golf Outing we raised $6,000, donating $5000.00 to the NAMA Foundation and $1000.00 for DC SCORES. At this year’s annual meeting, we also pledged to provide new soccer uniform shirts and shorts for the new DC SCORES Middle School program which is the first of its kind in all of the offices of America Scores.”

DC SCORES, an affiliate of America SCORES, is an innovative after-school program that uses soccer, literacy and community service to build healthy bodies, healthy minds and healthy communities among at-risk kids in Washington, DC, Public Schools. A dedicated team of public-school teachers works with 8 – 14 year olds on basic skills including literacy and physical fitness, as well as character development areas such as leadership and team work. The result is happier, healthier and stronger kids and communities. For more information visit www.DCSCORES.org.

Concluded O’Neill, “We’ve also made the decision that DC SCORES will remain one of the two Charities we will be supporting for our 3rd Annual Charity Golf Outing which will be held in October 2006. Most of these students are at-risk kids in the Washington, DC Public School system, and we are proud to support this organization that will help make their lives better.”
