NAMA National Automatic Merchandising Association

NAMA BOARD MEMBERS TO BE 100% NCE CERTIFIED

Board Votes to Make Industry’s Mark of Excellence Mandatory for Board Service

CHICAGO, IL – The National Automatic Merchandising Association (NAMA) Board of Directors has voted unanimously that earning the NAMA Certified Executive (NCE) designation is now mandatory for all Board Members, NAMA President and CEO Richard M. Geerdes, NCE, announced today. The NCE is a mark of excellence that signifies accomplishment, initiative and professionalism in the vending, coffee service and onsite food management industries, and the vote was made during the Board’s annual meeting in June.

The new Board policy is effective immediately and states that to qualify as a candidate for the NAMA Board, an individual must either be an NCE in good standing or agree to become an NCE no later than 24 months following the beginning of their Board service. Directors who do not comply will not be eligible to serve a second term. Sitting Directors, who are not currently NCE certified will be given 36 months to comply. In addition, only sitting Directors who hold the NCE designation will be eligible for election to the Executive committee and/or to hold a Board Officer position.

In discussing the new policy Geerdes said, “In taking this step the Board is demonstrating to the entire industry the importance of earning the NCE designation. Earning the NCE isn't a simple process, but the Board is demonstrating leadership and personal and company commitment to this critical program that enhances the professionalism and future of our industry.”

To be awarded the NCE designation, applicants must first complete an application that documents personal and professional experience. Once the candidate’s qualifications have been verified, he or she is eligible to sit for the NCE exam. The exam is based on the NCE Competencies and Body of Knowledge, which is an evolving document reviewed on an ongoing basis. Its purpose is to identify those areas of information, knowledge, and expertise with which the NAMA certified executives should be familiar, and includes a broad base of topics ranging from Food and Beverage and Leadership to Sales Management and Technology.

Concluded Geerdes, “Since the first NCE was awarded in 2003 the program has steadily grown, towards its goal of a professional competitive edge in the marketplace for those who hold the designation. The Board’s action should be applauded, and any one who hasn’t earned their NCE should realize that the time to begin the process is now.”
