NDA National Dart Association
International Soft-Tip Dart Tournament's 21st Anniversary Boasts Record-Setting Year
|
More than 16,500 event entrants competing for over $475,000 in prize money
Las Vegas, NV — Soft-tip dart players across the globe attended the AMOA National Dart Association’s Team Dart International Championships, held April 28-May 6 at the Riviera Hotel and Casino. From modest beginnings 21 years ago, the NDA set out to create a world-class dart event and association. That first tournament saw a handful of operators
sending teams who competed for $25,000. This year, Team Dart participation was the largest in history with more than 16,500 event entrants
competing for over $475,000
in prize money and 170 operators participating in the tournament.
The Association’s Charter Holders work very hard all year to provide opportunities for their sanctioned players to compete in leagues and become eligible for the annual Team Dart tournament. Team Dart entry qualifications include being an NDA-sanctioned player and playing at least 96 league games for the coin-op vending company who enters the player in the tournament.
The NDA prides itself on providing a tournament for players of all skill levels with fair and equal competition.
Team Dart XXI kicked off Saturday and Sunday, April 29-30, with Singles and Doubles Cricket and 501, followed by the Mixed Triples event on Monday. The remainder of the competition included Team Cricket and 501 events as well as a Mixed Doubles Combo and a Second Chance Team Cricket event.
An international competition would not be complete without an International Challenge. Teams from Spain, Germany, Canada, France, New Zealand and the United States competed Thursday for national bragging rights until next year’s competition. The U.S. Men's team came back from the loser's bracket to defeat France and take the Men's title. The U.S. Women's team held on to
their title for the third year in a row defeating Spain in the finals. The newest addition to Team Dart, Team New Zealand, gained much attention
and respect after performing the traditional Maori dance, the Haka, during international team recognition at the Players' Appreciation Party.
