New York, NY - Sugar Foods Corporation, a leading privately held
Effective immediately, President and COO Stephen Odell will join Sugar Foods' founder, Donald Tober, as Co-CEO. Senior Vice President Martin Wilson, will take over as President and Chief Operating Officer. Jim Walsh, Vice President of Administration, has been promoted to Executive Vice President. Donald Tober, in addition to sharing CEO responsibilities with Odell, will continue to serve as Chairman.
“The leadership team at Sugar Foods continues to be a key part of our growing success,” said Tober. “This restructuring further positions us to launch new products, form partnerships, expand geographically and prepare for possible future acquisitions.”
Mr. Odell joined Sugar Foods in 1969 and became a co-owner with Mr. Tober in 1983. In his capacity as President and COO, Odell has been responsible for developing the business strategies that have helped make Sugar Foods Corporation a food industry leader, particularly in the foodservice segment.
Mr. Odell served as the 1991 Chairman of IFMA (International Foodservice Manufacturers Association), and is an active member of several other organizations, including the World Presidents' Organization. “Under Stephen's watch, our company has grown substantially in both size and scope,” said Tober. “As we forge ahead with new alliances, products, plant expansions and initiatives, his proven leadership will help ensure our success.”
In his new capacity as President and COO, Mr. Wilson, who has been with Sugar Foods since 1988, will oversee day-to-day operations and management as well as initiate business strategies for the company. Before joining Sugar Foods, Wilson worked with numerous organizations in the food manufacturing and distribution industry, primarily as a consultant with Ernst & Young, both in the U.S. as well as for four years in Madrid, Spain.
“Marty is an enormous asset to our team,” said Odell. “His background in international food distribution and marketing is invaluable as we plan our expansion into Mexico this year.”
Mr. Walsh, who joined Sugar Foods in 1987, continues to be actively involved in the day-to-day management of the business, in addition to playing a major role in industry initiatives such as EFR (Efficient Foodservice Response). Mr. Walsh holds a M.S. in Accounting from St. John's University, and in 2004 he was inducted into the honorary management fraternity of Sigma Iota Epsilon. He also participates, on behalf of Sugar Foods, in St. John's Executive-in-Residence Program for business majors.
“In his new role as EVP, Jim will continue to make important contributions as we prepare to scale our operations and distribution in order to provide new products and greater service to our customers,” said Odell.
Sugar Foods is launching several healthier lifestyle products this spring, including a new line of better-for-you snacks, Super Snax®, which has already won over one of the largest school districts in the country. In addition to school foodservice, Sugar Foods is continuing its penetration into grocery, produce and bakery markets, in the U.S. and abroad.
