LAKE ZURICH, Ill., — Digital-downloading jukebox giant TouchTunes Music Corporation conducted a whirlwind series of coast-to-coast, distributor-hosted presentations during the first quarter of the year, where operators were given first-hand introductions to the company’s new Allegro floor-model jukebox and field service tips for maintaining existing equipment.

Among distributors hosting TouchTunes’ “spotlight” presentations, field service briefings, or both were Amusement Distributors of Texas in Houston and San Antonio; Amusement Services in Billings, Mont.; Atlas Distributing in Wood Dale, Ill.; Moss Distributing in Eagan, Minn., Oklahoma City, and Tulsa; C.A. Robinson & Co. in Los Angeles and San Francisco; and Shaffer Distributing in Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, and St. Louis.

Dan Clarton, TouchTunes’ national sales director, attended most of the events and said operators getting their first look at the Allegro remarked about “what a great-looking jukebox it is in person.” He said they especially liked Allegro’s classic, retro-inspired styling and the touch-screen monitor’s large viewing area, both of which are designed to grab patrons’ attention and lure them to the machine. “It was gratifying to see how many operators came out to see what we're doing.”

TouchTunes also brought members of its inside sales staff so operators could associate names and faces with the voices they hear on the phone. “It’s all about making person-to-person connections,” Clarton said.

TouchTunes’ field service manager Rick Hirschman and senior field service trainer Ed Schmidt provided operators with service updates and some half-day service schools in connection with the product demonstrations.

“We’ve been focusing on preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on our legacy products, the equipment that’s on the street,” Hirschman said. Topics covered include maintaining equipment in locations with air-quality problems, location electrical considerations, data networking techniques, and the role of pro audio installers. “Most problems are location-specific,” Hirschman said.
