TouchTunes Music Corporation

TOUCHTUNES DOWNLOADS NEW DISTRIBUTORS

Appoints Firms in Dallas-Fort Worth, New Orleans, and Reno

LAKE ZURICH, Ill., — Digital-downloading jukebox giant TouchTunes Music Corporation has designated three new distributors in areas of the southern and western U.S.

Discount Arcade Distributing, Crowley, Tex., in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, has been appointed TouchTunes’ exclusive distributor for north Texas and will also be selling into open territories of Oklahoma and Arkansas.

“It took me about 20 seconds to decide to drop my former digital jukebox line and take on TouchTunes,” said Discount Arcade founder Rodney Foy. “Some of the largest operators in Texas are using TouchTunes, and I couldn't get them to switch. It’s simply a superior product.”

One of the region’s younger coin-op distributors, Foy started his company in 1992 selling games out of his garage. The business grew into a full-line distributorship four years ago. “Nowadays, a distributor has to be aggressive and go out after the business,” Foy says. “In the past, when a couple distributors had all the lines, they could just sit back and take orders.”

Foy sees “a big opportunity in this area because of how many operators are still using CD jukeboxes. Little by little, we’re showing them how they can make a lot more money with a digital jukebox.”

Elsewhere in the south, New Orleans Novelty Company, Metairie, La., is now distributing TouchTunes in New Orleans and other Louisiana markets.

Company vice president Mark Boasberg, whose grandfather founded the firm nearly 75 years ago, called TouchTunes “one of the bright lights in our business” and feels that its digital jukeboxes offer operators the “the most reliable operating software, the best sound, and the most professional technical support and customer service.”

Like other New Orleans businesses, Boasberg’s company suffered greatly from last summer’s hurricane. “Our city is not back to normal. Life as we know it is completely different,” he said. The company will be moving to a temporary facility in nearby Kenner, La., early this June while it rebuilds its Metairie headquarters.

Once they’ve moved, Boasberg promises “there will be TouchTunes spotlight shows and major promotions” for the jukeboxes.

Marty Shumsky’s Reno Game Sales, Reno, Nev., a distributor whose personalized service has attracted a devoted following of smaller operators from as far away as Hawaii and Guam, has been appointed TouchTunes’ exclusive distributor for northern Nevada.

With the assistance of TouchTunes regional manager Evan Steiner, Shumsky said Reno Game “did location demos of the TouchTunes jukebox with three of our northern Nevada operators, and all three ended up buying it. So we have a 100 percent batting average.

“Everything we’ve seen we like very much,” Shumsky said.

“It’s an advantage that TouchTunes has both broadband and dial-up,” Shumsky added. “It’s an easier installation with just a phone line. You just roll [the jukebox] into the location. With [other brands], you have to use broadband, which you have to order in advance.”
