TouchTunes Music Corporation

Internet Jukebox Giant Announces Major Deal with Leading Digital Distributor and Marketer

TOUCHTUNES TO HARVEST THE ORCHARD’S  INDUSTRY-LEADING INDEPENDENT MUSIC CATALOGUE

Laurie Hughes

Lake Zurich, IL, — TouchTunes Music Corporation has become the first digital-downloading jukebox company to forge an agreement with The Orchard, the world’s leading digital distributor and marketer of independent music.

The agreement gives TouchTunes access to The Orchard's diverse catalogue of more than one million digital tracks from hundreds of indie labels and thousands of artists spanning 73 countries and representing all music categories.  Artists include some of today’s superstar acts, recorded prior to their major-label debuts.

Music from The Orchard will become available for TouchTunes operators to download to their jukeboxes beginning January 22.

The New York Times called The Orchard's richly varied catalogue "an embarrassment of niches."

“This greatly expands our ability to satisfy the musical tastes of virtually anyone who walks up to the jukebox,” says Laurie Hughes, TouchTunes vice president for business affairs.
“Whether someone wants Asian or African pop music; classic R&B, avant-garde jazz, archival blues and folk, or an offbeat genre of alternative rock, our deal with The Orchard means they can hear it on a TouchTunes digital jukebox,” Hughes says.

Dan McAllister, TouchTunes senior vice president for sales and marketing, says, “From the time we launched the world's first digital jukebox in 1998 through our recent introduction of the first Web-based personal playlists for jukebox users, TouchTunes has always strived to expand ‘the power of choice’ for jukebox operators and end users.

He adds, “Among the many jukebox operators who will benefit from access to The Orchard’s catalog are those with locations serving immigrant communities and ethnic clientele who want to hear current hits and pop classics from their home countries in their native languages.”

Greg Scholl
Greg Scholl, president and CEO of The Orchard, says, “This agreement benefits everyone, from the artists and labels we represent to the guy in a bar having a beer after work with his friends. We look forward to working with TouchTunes to market and sell cutting-edge music through this exciting new venue and turn people on to great new music via the extensive TouchTunes jukebox network.”

TouchTunes music department has begun working with The Orchard’s marketing team to identify songs that operators and patrons have previously requested and to flag the most jukebox-friendly musical categories, artists, and tracks, Hughes says.

As TouchTunes adds The Orchard’s music to its library, the company will alert operators via e-mail, fax, and postings on the Operator Dashboard, TouchTunes’ Web-based jukebox management tool.
