VALLEY-DYNAMO
Texas State Foosball Championship Awards $25,000
|
Players from around the world compete on over 50 Tornado tables
GRAND PRAIRIE, TEXAS – The United States Table Soccer Association (USTSA) held its Texas State Foosball Championship May 24-28 at the Holiday Inn Select in Irving, Texas. Over 170 players representing 70 teams from all over the world participated in this year’s event, which was recognized this year as an International Table Soccer Table Federation (ITSF) Master Series event.
The tournament, which was played on over 50 Tornado Tour tables, offered $25,000 in prize money, the second largest purse among regional USTSA tournaments. Valley, the largest sponsor of the Valley International Foosball Association (VIFA), provided all the Tornado Tour foosball tables for the event.
The event included 14 separate divisions, with new pro singles, semi-pro mixed, goalie war and a second DYP being added this year. In addition to regional players, top- ranked players from countries such as Canada, Costa Rica, Germany and the United Kingdom also participated in the tournament.

During the event, Mike Simmons of Houston and Scott and Brandon Moreland of Minnesota were inducted into the Texas Legends of Foosball.
Simmons was introduced to the game of foosball in the early 1970’s where he played in college in Huntsville, Texas.
“The induction means a lot to me. It creates a special place in my heart because it comes from my peers,” said Simmons. “I’ve watched the whole industry change. I was around when everything was done on paper. Now everything is computerized. How things are done today is based on what I did in the early 90’s. We instituted changes in the way tournaments are set up. When there’s less set up for the players, the more the players get to play.”
Scott Moreland began playing foosball in the 1970’s and won the Mixed Doubles at Tornado’s first National Championship Tournament. His son, Brandon, won his first Texas State title in 1994 and has continued in his dad's footsteps as being a true ambassador for the sport of foosball.
“Valley would like to congratulate Mike, Scott and Brandon on being inducted into the Texas Legends of Foosball. Their dedication to this great game should be commended,” said Dave Courington, vice president of sales and promotions for Valley-Dynamo. “It’s great to see players like them at these regional tournaments. What they have brought to this industry has sparked continued interest among competitors and spectators alike. They are all truly Texas Legends and I am proud to call each one my friend.”
The Texas State Foosball Championship incorporated Mary Moore’s Everguide software into its operation. Moore, from Louisville, Ky., has run numerous tournaments across the United States this year. She has many more scheduled this year.
The Tornado Tour is supported by both VIFA and USTSA, the two top industry operator programs. All tables provided for the Texas event were pre-sold for a special tournament price. The table’s small foot path allows the table to be placed in even the smallest venues, making it popular among bars and recreational facilities alike. Its features, such as heat-treated rods, comfortable eight-sided wood handles and pre-assembled cabinet, make it the industry standard.
The USTSA Tornado World Championship Series will be held Sept. 26-30 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Valley is a strong supporter of this international tournament.
